The president of Ukraine, Volodomir Zelenski, has come out of speculation about the alleged pressure exerted on him by the president of the United States, Donald Trump: “The only person who can pressure me is my son.”
Both leaders spoke by telephone on July 25 and, as Trump himself acknowledged, in the conversation he alluded to former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter. Several media have ensured that intelligence sources perceived pressure on Zelenski to investigate the activity of Biden's son in a gas company.
“No one can pressure me because I am the president of an independent country,” Zelenski said in statements to the media in New York, according to Russia 24. “The only person who can pressure me is my son, who is six years old,” he said. added.
The call, whose content Trump has promised to publish on Tuesday, has prompted the Democratic Party to announce the opening of a formal investigation in the House of Representatives for a possible political trial that would mean – in the unlikely event of prospering – automatic dismissal of the president.
