KIEV, Sep 24 (Reuters / EP) –
The president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, has assured that he needs the support of the United States to achieve the end of the war in eastern Ukraine, while pointing out that he hopes to have a “powerful” and “significant” meeting with the American president, Donald Trump, this week.
In a statement, Zelenski said he is confident that a meeting of Ukrainian, Russian, French and German leaders will soon be held on the conflict in eastern Ukraine, where pro-Russian separatist forces continue to fight against the security forces under command from Kiev
“We want to leave this meeting with some results in specific terms to end the war and return to our territories,” said the Ukrainian president.
Zelenski closed with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin in early September an agreement for an exchange of prisoners that has been the biggest gesture of rapprochement between the two countries since the Ukrainian president took office.
