Yuriko Koike, re-elected governor of Tokyo amid an increase in infections

The governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike, has managed to reaffirm his mandate to head the Japanese capital, according to polls in the ballot box for elections this Sunday, in a vote of confidence by the population in the fight against the coronavirus in the city involved in this Sunday again exceeded 100 new cases.

According to surveys, the former defense minister received 60 percent of the vote, with a huge advantage over the other 21 candidates.

“I am pleased with so much support and at the same time I feel very responsible before my second term, which will be very important,” said the governor, once she knew the results of the surveys in comments from the Japanese public network NHK.
