The Yemeni government has confirmed the first two deaths on its territory caused by the pandemic of the new coronavirus from the Chinese city of Wuhan, the state-run TV station Yemen TV reports.
The first two deaths were announced hours after the Yemeni government, recognized by the international community, reported five more coronavirus infections in the city of Aden in the south of the country.
To date, only one case has been discovered on April 10 in the Hadramut province in the east of the country. However, the United Nations has warned that there is “a very real chance” that the virus will spread undetected in the country.
The international coalition led by Saudi Arabia announced a two-week unilateral ceasefire on 9 April due to the pandemic, despite the Houthis rejecting it and calling it a “political and media maneuver.”
