May 25, 2020

The Ministry of Health of the Chinese city of Wuhan has reported that it has discovered 189 new cases of coronavirus, all in asymptomatic individuals, as a result of a massive campaign of coronavirus PCR tests that have performed over 6.5 million people in ten days . Wuhan is believed to be the source of the coronavirus pandemic.

Nucleic acid tests were performed free of charge and voluntarily on 6,574,093 people between May 14 and 23. Only on Saturday 1,146,156 tests were completed, more than 15 times the value from May 14 when the city launched the campaign, the Sputnik news agency reported.

The record for a single day was reached on May 22, when the capital of Hubei province, with a total population of around 10 million, carried out 1,470,950 tests. Before the campaign, more than three million tests were carried out, so that theoretically the entire population of the city could have been recorded.

The decision to extend the testing to anyone who had not previously been examined was made at a time when Wuhan continued to detect asymptomatic infections, which triggered the Chinese news agency Xinhua after months of restoring factory, business, and school normalcy.
