On January 24, 2020, the National Advisory Committees for Standardization of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (SE) and those for Regulation and Health Promotion of the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (COFEPRIS) approved the change to the official Mexican standard NOM -051-SCFI / SSA1-2010 ( NOM-051) for labeling prepackaged foods and non-alcoholic beverages.

The new regulation aims to ensure that products have a unique label so that the population can easily and quickly know the contents of pre-packaged products intended for consumers to determine whether there are excess calories, sodium, trans fats, sugars and saturated ones Fats are present which poses health risks if consumed in excess.
