With more than 40,000 new cases, Poland again has a daily record for coronavirus infections

According to the Ministry of Health, the number of new infections from the corona virus in Poland reached a new record for the second time in a row this Saturday with the reporting of 40,876 new cases.

Authorities have also reported another 193 deaths in a single day, adding up to 4.4 million people affected and 104,000 deaths since the crisis began, according to the official PAP news agency.

Last week, a dispute over the country’s corona policy caused a stir in the Polish government’s medical advisory board. In protest against the growing influence of anti-vaccination groups, 13 of the 17 members left the Medical Council.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced a new restructuring of the council on Friday.

The opposition has long accused the conservative government of the Law and Justice Party (PiS) of avoiding drastic measures in order not to alienate opponents of vaccination in their own ranks.

For example, there is still no legal basis for restaurant, hotel and shop owners to ask their customers about vaccination status, and there are no regulations on public access to certain public places based on whether they have received the vaccine or not.
