The sSecretary for Public Education, Esteban Moctezuma Barragán made a statement to advance some issues to be discussed at the conference the following morning on Monday, August 3rd. Among other things, he emphasizes that students will only return to the classroom when the epidemiological light is green.

After this Ministry of Public Education (SEP) announced that the return to school date will be postponed until further notice. One of the most common concerns in recent days is how and when minors will return to class.

“We live in very difficult times, many decisions have to be made in connection with the pandemic. However, the fundamental decision is that we will always take care of the health of all of you, ”said Esteban Moctezuma Barragán, Education Minister, in a video uploaded to his social networks on the night of Thursday, July 30th.

Similarly, he mentioned that there was bad news on the subject, but the educational system remained consistent: “We were the first to protect our entire community, and therefore we will be the last to return personally if there is one Traffic light there. Green”.

However, it is clear that there is no set date that indicates when children return from preschool, primary and secondary education. However, the head of the SEP said that the 2020-2021 school year would start remotely.

Given the growing insecurity among parents, details of how and when they will return to school will be announced at President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s morning press conference on Monday, August 3.

Moctezuma also emphasized the enthusiasm and dedication of students and educational staff, as well as the variety of tools available to the education sector to ensure that the “Learn at Home” program already implemented is working successfully.

“I invite you to be present on your TV and to follow this show as this will clear up any doubts about such an important issue for everyone,” he added.

The previous school year ended on June 19 and a few days later López Obrador announced that the return to school would take place on August 10. However, at his morning conference on Wednesday, July 29, he announced that the date of returning to school and the date of registration and re-registration would change.

“I tell you that what will come back to school on Monday is also a task that we will do in coordination with the private education sector,” said the President of the Republic.

Likewise, a virtual conference with the National Council of Education Authorities (CONAEDU) announced that they will be working on a hybrid model to return to schools that combine face-to-face modality and online modality. In a similar manner, he said that the minors will gradually return to the classroom.

It is worth noting that an alleged school calendar published by the SEP for the 2020-2021 school year has been disseminated on social networks where deadlines for return to school, days off, vacation and the end of the course are met.

Against this background, the authorities warned that this was false news and urged that only content published on the official channels of the SEP be considered.
