Voluntad Popular (VP), the party of Venezuelan opponents Juan Guaidó and Leopoldo López, has called on the international community to increase pressure on the government of Nicolás Maduro and has directly pointed to new sanctions after the Supreme Court ruled (TSJ) , who suspends the Board of Directors to replace him with one related to “Chavismo”.
“We urge the international community, countries, political parties and individuals who love peace, freedom and democracy to remain vigilant, to exert pressure, to impose sanctions, convictions, declarations and solidarity measures to defend the will,” said the group in an explanation.
Switzerland already imposed new sanctions on eleven senior government officials in Maduro on Tuesday for violating human rights. “This is the path the international community must take: push for the restoration of democracy and freedoms,” said Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), on Twitter.
The TSJ announced on Tuesday the suspension of the leadership of the People’s Will to name a new one that will be able to make the internal changes it has considered and to maintain the party’s symbols, colors and voting card.
