Venezuela’s vice president of communications, Jorge Rodríguez, announced this Thursday that he has signed COVID-19 despite being in “general good condition” so he is being isolated.
“It is my duty to inform that I have received a diagnosis of COVID-19 infection. Although I am in good general health, I must take the isolation and take the necessary care to overcome the virus picture,” he announced Twitter on.
Rodríguez is not the first top Venezuelan official to contract the virus. Also infected were Tarek El Aissami, Vice-President of Economic Affairs and the President of the Constituent Assembly Diosdado Cabello, who have already announced their recovery, as well as Luis Parra, the Chavismo-elected chairman and the minority opposition.
This new contagion is known on a day when Venezuela posted 29,188 positive results by adding 1,150 new ones, while the death toll from COVID-19 rose to 247 after registering nine more deaths.
