According to the Venezuelan authorities, the country already has more than 22,000 Cuban doctors caring for coronavirus victims after a further 93 professionals arrived from the island this Friday.
“We are receiving 93 doctors from the Henry Reeve Brigade to strengthen Covid-19 care and other doctors to strengthen community activity. Solidarity is not an agreement, it is brotherhood, and Cuba and Venezuela have more than an agreement between two countries, brothers, a gigantic solidarity, “said the Venezuelan Vice Minister of Health Gerardo Briceño in statements to the public broadcaster VTV.
The Cuban brigade will be split into six teams deployed in the states with the highest number of coronavirus cases: one brigade in the metropolitan axis that will serve Vargas, the capital district and Miranda, one in Zulia, one in Lara, one in Carabobo, Anzoátegui and Bolívar. On this last trip, intensive care units, anesthetists, cardiologists, pulmonologists, epidemiologists and intensive care nurses arrived.
The first members of the Henry Reeve Brigade arrived in Venezuela at the start of the pandemic in March, and the return of these professionals to the island would have been a major source of contagion in the country.
