Venezuela’s commanding officer of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), Remigio Ceballos, announced the arrest of eight other people allegedly involved in Operation Gideon, the attempted coup attack launched by Caracas and recent, on Sunday was disturbed for three years in May.
“The people of Venezuela, the homeland is growing, the armed forces continue to guarantee the security of the nation. We captured eight mercenary terrorists today,” Ceballos wrote on his Twitter account that Sunday evening.
Among these eight new prisoners, the government said a nephew of the former Venezuelan army member General Clíver Alcalá Cordones, who confessed from Colombia in March last year, was behind a “surgical operation” against President Nicolás Maduro.
To date, 28 people have been arrested in these new arrests, including two Americans, and eight others have died.
