Venezuela accuses the allegedly captured US spy of oil and electrical sabotage

Venezuela attorney general Tarek William Saab reported this Monday that the recently captured suspected US spy is implicated in plans to sabotage the Caribbean country’s oil industry and power grid. The US citizen has been identified as Matthew Jhon Heath.

The suspect, allegedly a soldier, carried out his actions “with the support of the military and the civilian population”. It is “a new act of aggression against Venezuela with US participation,” Saab said.

Last Friday, the public ministry was informed of the planning of espionage and sabotage activities by US agents and Venezuelan employees.

These citizens had planned to facilitate the entry of US agents into Venezuelan territory via Colombia in order to obtain strategic information about the Amuay refinery. The ultimate goal was “to encourage activities that harm the National Electric Service and the oil industry”.
