The US State Department announced on Friday new restrictions on entry visas for 14 Iranians because of “serious human rights violations”.
“The US State Department announces visa restrictions for 14 Iranians involved in serious human rights abuses on behalf of the Iranian regime, the most important state sponsor of terrorism in the world,” the secretary said in a statement. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo when International Day of Commemoration and Tribute to Victims of Terrorism is celebrated.
Pompeo has indicated that the direct relatives of those involved are also not allowed to enter the country. He has assured that this action sends “a message of support” to the victims of Iran and asked the nation to be “held accountable for the spread of terror and violence”.
“Dignity and respect”
“The United States will continue to pressurize Iran to treat its own citizens with dignity and respect,” he said. The US representative has indicated that the visa restrictions will apply to 13 public positions involved in the “brutal and planned assassination” that took place in Switzerland in 1990 as part of “Iran’s current global terrorism campaign”.
