US Announces Sanctions on Iranian Interior Minister for “Serious Human Rights Violations”

The United States government announced sanctions against Iranian Interior Secretary Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli on Wednesday for “serious violations of human rights”. This package of measures also affects seven officials and a provincial commander of the Revolutionary Guard. .

The Treasury has detailed that the measures, because of their links with the Iranian police, the Iran Disciplinary Force (LEF), which includes the sanctioned officers mentioned above, also affect an Iranian foundation and several of its executives.

“The Iranian regime violently suppresses dissent among the Iranian people, including peaceful demonstrators, through physical and mental abuse,” said Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

He stressed that “the United States will continue to hold Iranian officials and institutions accountable for the suppression and abuse of their own people,” the ministry said on its website.
