Uruguay performed an operation this Tuesday that allowed 64 crew members to disembark from the cruise ship ‘Greg Mortimer’, some of which were infected with coronaviruses.
The operation, coordinated by the Uruguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health, ensured that 36 positive patients were brought to a hotel and 28 who had negative results in the Covid-19 diagnostic test were transferred to another. However, 22 crew members remain on the boat, according to the local newspaper ‘El País’.
The Uruguayan Foreign Ministry insisted in a statement that the transfer of the crew to their respective accommodation in the capital, Montevideo, was carried out “with all hygienic guarantees” both for them and for the Uruguayan population.
More than 100 Australian and New Zealand passengers most infected with corona viruses left the Greg Mortimer in early April after being stranded off the coast of the Uruguayan capital two weeks ago.
