The main privacy-conscious browser Brave is the latest browser to integrate decentralized domain support from blockchain domain name provider Unstoppable Domains.
Brave announced Thursday that its browser now offers native enterprise support for crypto domain names, allowing users to seamlessly access crypto domains through desktop and Android applications.
The new feature enables access to 30,000 decentralized websites and more than 700,000 blockchain domain names registered with Unstoppable Domains. Through the integration, the Brave browser supports a decentralized network that does not depend on the traditional Domain Name Service (DNS), which is often associated with data protection issues and other risks such as kidnapping, denial-of-service attacks and phishing attacks.
A representative from Brave told Cointelegraph that the new browser integration uses Cloudflare’s DNS over HTTPS method to resolve unstoppable domains by default. The integration can also be configured to resolve via the Ethereum blockchain in the Brave settings. as noted by Brave co-founder and CTO Brian Bondy. There is an additional setting that can only be configured via the settings shown below called Ethereum. When this option is set, the resolution will be shown directly on the Ethereum blockchain and the page will result in an IPFS CID.
In contrast to conventional domains that are stored by custodian banks such as GoDaddy or Google Domains on behalf of the user, .crypto domains are stored in cryptocurrency wallets. When a user claims a blockchain domain, it is minted as a non-fungible token on the Ethereum blockchain, ensuring full ownership and control. Such domains can also refer to content hosted on the InterPlanetary File System or on cryptocurrency addresses, making it easy to send and receive cryptocurrencies to wallets and exchanges like Coinbase.
Unstoppable domains were a matter of course for us as they gave our users access to the decentralized web with the ability to visit any .crypto domain name. From registering .crypto domains to hosting an NFT art gallery to sending and receiving cryptocurrencies, the options are for Braveâ ???? – Unlimited users.said Brave Co-Founder and CTO Brian Bondy.
We see Web3 as the future of the Internet, where everyone has ownership and control over their own content. Brave’s integration into unstoppable domains means easy decentralized internet access without the hassle of browser extensions or custom DNS settings“said Matthew Gould, Co-Founder and CEO of Unstoppable Domains.
As already reported by Cointelegraph, .crypto domains have been available in all common browsers via the Cloudflare integration since February of this year. In April, the cryptocurrency compatible web browser Opera expanded the integration of .crypto support to browsers on all platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows, Mac or Linux.
