UNHCR urges an end to the illegal arrest of refugees in a pandemic

“States must act to ensure that their actions comply with international law and that vulnerable refugees are not at high and unnecessary risk in the current pandemic,” said Deputy High Commissioner for Protection, Gillian Triggs.

“Measures to combat COVID-19 do not justify arbitrary arrest on arrival, which not only exacerbates the misery of people who have already suffered, but also undermines efforts to limit the spread of the virus.” added.
