The Ukrainian armed forces have accused pro-Russian separatist militiamen based in eastern Ukraine of failing to comply with the new ceasefire within the first hour after hostilities have ended.
“Unfortunately, shots were fired from the enemy at 0.20 and 0.45,” said Ukrainian general Volodimir Kravchenko at a press conference in Kiev, the Ukrinform news agency said.
A statement by the Ukrainian armed forces says the shootout took place near the city of Ushivka, south of the city of Donetsk, one of two strongholds controlled by the pro-Russian rebels. General Kravchenko has insisted that the Ukrainian armed forces continue to respect the ceasefire.
The Ukrainian High Command announced that shots by the enemy were observed near the city of Novomikhailovka in the southwest of the Donetsk region at around 9:00 am on Monday. According to the general, the shootout did not endanger the armed forces under Kiev’s command.
