Two 17-year-old Italians were arrested for paying Bitcoin (BTC) to see how children were sexually raped, tortured, and killed on live broadcasts.
Local media Il Messaggero reported on July 15 that the deep website they saw also allowed users to pay more to decide what torture the children would be subjected to next. The Italian police said:
“Users who have been able to reach such dark environments can participate in sexual violence and torture against minors performed by adults live.”
Torture on request
The services offered on the website have different costs. Watching a recorded video costs a lot less than watching it live, but in both cases, watching ends with the child’s death. The article also provides another example where, for example, “viewers can be asked to amputate a child’s arm or pour hot oil on the victim.”. The police said:
“Live applications really cost a lot of money and are particularly profitable for foreign organizations that perform these inhumane acts.”
The two were registered as part of an ongoing investigation involving 25 people, 19 minors and six over 18 year olds from 13 Italian provinces. The operation is called “Delirio” by the local police, a deception in Italian. It started in October and resulted in dozens of searches.
The two arrested are a man and a woman who exchanged details about what they called the “red room”. The man often shared dark details of the live broadcasts with the women.
The media found include pedopornographic videos of minors, videos of children up to three years of age that are abused by adults, and videos that show violence that is often accompanied by National Socialist symbolism.
It is unclear whether the website offering the services has been closed, but presumably only a few of its viewers have been caught. Local police did not respond to Cointelegraph’s investigation.
The relationship of pedopornography to cryptocurrencies
The anonymity of cryptocurrencies and the lack of government control over them make them suitable for criminals. These criminals include political dissidents, whistleblowers and journalists, but also pedophiles, drug dealers and hackers.
There are many reports worldwide about the use of Bitcoin and other crypto assets, especially when trading child pornography. For example, in late June, Spanish law enforcement officials removed a circle of child pornography that used cryptocurrency transactions to pay for content.
