Two French soldiers have died and another was wounded by a bomb detonated in Mali this Saturday when his armored vehicle drove by, the Elysee Palace reported in a statement this Saturday.
“It was with great regret that the President of the Republic knew the deaths of two French soldiers,” the Presidency said in a statement.
The deceased are Brigade Chief 1st Class S. T. and Husar Paratrooper 1st Class Arnaud Volpe. The attack occurred during an operation in the Tessalit region in northern Mali and near the border with Algeria.
French President Emmanuel Macron has emphasized his “respect” for the “sacrifice” of these soldiers “who died for France while carrying out the mission against terrorism in the Sahel”.
