Two explosions on an Iraqi military base used by a Iranian-backed militia coalition

July 28, 2020

The Iraqi authorities confirmed Tuesday that two explosions rocked the Speicher military base, located in central Saladin province and occupied by People’s Mobilization Forces (FMP), a coalition of government-led militias supported by Iran.

The Security Media Cell said in a message posted on its account on the Twitter social network that “the civil protection teams have managed to control the fire caused by the explosions, which caused no casualties.” The causes of the explosions are currently unknown.

The base of Speicher, currently called Mayid al Tamimi, is located in Tikrit and was the scene of the massacre of some 1,500 cadets in 2014, most of them Shiites, after the Islamic State jihadist group took them up as part of their massacre to launch his “lightning offensive” Caliphate “.

The base incident occurred just hours after three grenades hit Tayi military base north of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad and Spanish troops were deployed, an event that ended even without the victims.
