The Turkish authorities have accused the Greek government of using attack ships alongside the demilitarized zone in the eastern Aegean.
According to the spokesman for the Turkish Defense Ministry, Pinar Kara, “despite all the positive and constructive steps Turkey has taken, Greece continues to act provocatively.”
Kara has indicated that Ankara is continuing efforts to resolve the matter through dialogue and negotiation “on the basis of international law and with due regard to the principle of good neighborliness,” according to the Anatolia news agency.
Taking into account the recent talks between the parties under the NATO-sponsored mechanism, the spokesman stated that Greece had not yet responded to an invitation to the next round of contacts.
Tensions in the eastern Mediterranean have increased in recent months as Greece and Turkey embroiled in a maritime dispute over hydrocarbon exploration in the region.
