Trump signs executive order banning “any” transaction with the company that owns TikTok

August 7, 2020

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, signed an executive order on Thursday banning “any” transaction with the company that owns the TikTok mobile application ByteDance within 45 days.

Specifically, the order prohibits “any transaction by any person or in relation to property that is under United States jurisdiction with ByteDance or its affiliates”, according to the published text.

In his view, the proliferation of mobile applications developed by Chinese companies and owned by Chinese companies continues to threaten national security, foreign policy, and the economy of the United States in the North American country, and has specifically drawn attention to the threat posed by TikTok.
