The President of the United States, Donald Trump, on Sunday asked Lebanon to investigate the causes of the large explosion last Tuesday in the port of Beirut, while offering his support to anti-Lebanese government protesters who understand the detonation as a symbol of Government incompetence.
So far, the official version has been that the detonation took place when more than 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate exploded and exploded in one of the port depots, poorly monitored. A total of 158 people died and more than 6,000 were injured.
However, Trump toyed with the idea of a possible attack on the warehouse a few hours after the explosion, with no evidence to support the hypothesis.
“The President has asked the Lebanese government to conduct a full and transparent investigation that the United States wishes to support,” White House spokesman Judd Deer said in a written statement following Trump’s participation in France this Sunday organized international video conference on aid to Lebanon.
