TRC Specialty Commodities and iFinca use the blockchain platform CoffeeChain

TRC Specialty Coffee works in collaboration with iFinca. With CoffeeChain’s blockchain technology, consumers can now trace their coffee back to the manufacturer on a platform that provides transparency and traceability across the coffee supply chain. This was reported by PR Newswire on September 1st.

To better understand how this initiative works, they detailed the following: By scanning the QR code “Meet the Farmer”, the mobile device leads to a brand or coffee landing page that contains information about who grew the coffee and where. In this way, the relevant supply chain is exposed. On the other hand, information on the original prices can be obtained.

“This comes at a time when more and more consumers are taking a social impact approach to their buying patterns and buying products that match their values. According to iFinca, 78% of respondents are willing to pay a premium for coffee from ethical sources for those who say that being conscious is very important, “they said of PR Newswire.

Jay Baxter, TRC dealer, commented:

“We know that our customers are demanding more and more transparency in the supply chain – especially who the producer is and how much they received for their harvest. We are determined to encourage this as part of our coffee transparency strategy.”

Then he added:

“Our collaboration with iFinca not only helps connect coffee lovers with producers who offer their favorite beverage, but also gives them an opportunity to understand the monetary value that the coffee farmer receives.”

Transparency and application

According to the PR Newswire publication, transparency is achieved through the use of the iFinca app and the dynamics of the CoffeeChain platform to record, store and display data about events in the coffee supply chain.

“”Information about these events is protected in an immutable ledger. iFinca does not sell or buy green coffee, but is an independent third-party verification tool that enables trust and accountability between consumers, coffee producers and their supply chain partners, ”they stated.

“Buyers of green coffee can easily view and order coffee samples with the free iFinca app. The containers that land in London and Hamburg contain lots from the USAID and Coffee for Peace project, ”they concluded.
