Telegram recently delayed its TON open network and GRAM cryptocurrency again. However, there is a related project where these setbacks have not occurred. TON OS, an operating system for the TON blockchain, will soon receive an open source version.
The developers of the project’s core infrastructure, TON Labs, plan to open the source code for the main components of the TON operating system on GitHub tomorrow. Mitja Goroshevsky, CTO of TON Labs, confirmed the message to Cointelegraph on May 6.
TON Labs will issue a token called TON Cash within a month
As reported by the industry media ForkLog, The start includes the TON node in the Rust programming language, the command line interface, the TON multisignature wallet smart contract and tools for starting TON validators. The report notes that TON Labs is also planning to launch its decentralized browser, Surf, DePool, and the token known as TON Cash within a month.
Along with the open source launch of TON OS, TON Labs joins the Free Software Foundation (FSF), an important movement for free software. Therefore, all components of the TON operating system are published as free software. According to the developers, the idea of a blockchain without permission in a closed source is absurd. According to reports, TON Labs are considering joining the FSF to maintain free use of the application and the TON blockchain.
TON Labs said:
“This means the freedom of the user to copy, distribute, learn, modify and improve the TON software, and above all, in the case of TON, it means complete freedom of network operation. It’s not about how good the code is, it’s about a human right to use it. “
What exactly is this TON operating system?
Despite the “operating system” – operating system – on his behalf, TON OS is not a competitor to existing operating systems such as iOS, Android or Windows. Instead, the system is said to serve as the operating system for Telegram’s blockchain network, said Goroshevsky.
Basically, TON OS should fill the gap that is missing in the limited user interaction with blockchain, explained Goroshevsky. The executive argued:
“Vitalik Buterin has called Ethereum a ‘world computer’. If it is a world computer, it must have a processor and resources and provide user services. However, today there is no operating system or operating environment to manage these resources So imagine blockchain as a processor and then have a program that is run by that processor and the user who wants to interact with that program, and we have a component stack that offers all of these functions, we call it an operating system. “
According to what Cointelegraph reported TON OS was developed to support blockchain applications. In addition, the TON operating system would also allow users to create applications that are automatically compatible with the blockchain platform. The system supports applications with various functions, e.g. B. Transaction of numerous assets, including cryptocurrencies.
As previously reported, despite the ongoing litigation between Telegram and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the TON network can still be launched by independent TON validators.
