Tokyo sets a new daily coronavirus case record with nearly 500
Tokyo once again recorded a record number of new coronavirus cases in a day, almost 500 in total, related to a general increase in infections in Japan after de-escalation began.
The government of the Tokyo metropolis reported this Saturday that another 472 infections were found on the last day. This is the third day in a row that the Japanese capital has broken its own daily record after 463 on Friday and 367 on Thursday.
Tokyo already has 13,163 cases of COVID-19, of which 6,466 were registered in July. This is the largest monthly increase since Japan’s social and economic reopening in May, according to the Kiodo news agency.

The Tokyo governor, Yuriko Koike, has openly pointed out the possibility of returning to custody. “We are almost at a point where we need to consider declaring a state of emergency for Tokyo only. I would ask everyone to take the necessary steps to avoid this decision,” he said on Friday.
