Tokyo surpassed its record of coronavirus infections in a single day on Thursday. More than 280 new cases, the day after the governor of the Japanese capital, Yuriko Koike, increased the warning of the pandemic risk to the maximum, emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan, the Japanese news agency Kiodo reports.
Koike said that the daily record of cases well above the 243 positive results from the last maximum registered last Friday reflects an upward trend in the number of coronavirus tests performed in the capital with more than 4,000 tests in a day, which is also a new record.
The number of infections in the Japanese capital has increased since the state of emergency was completely withdrawn on May 25. Japan recorded a total of 454 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, the highest number since the state of emergency was lifted.
In view of the upward trend in local infections, the Japanese central government plans to launch the “Start traveling” campaign, which aims to promote domestic tourism and whose launch, precisely because of the increase in the number of coronaviruses and the risks, raises doubts from this situation.
