Three soldiers die fighting terrorism in eastern Turkey

September 11, 2020

At least three Turkish soldiers have died and another was wounded this Friday during an anti-terrorist operation in the east of the country that would have targeted the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) in the area.

The Home Office said the dead were a captain and two gendarmerie sergeants before adding that the operation was carried out in Van province.

It has shown that the operation also “neutralized” three suspects, implying that the alleged terrorists have died, been captured or surrendered, according to Turkish state news agency Anatolia.

The Turkish army has intensified its operations against the PKK in both the country and northern Iraq – where the formation has numerous bases – since the ceasefire between the government and the armed group was broken in July 2015.
