Three people have died and another was injured Tuesday after a boat crashed into rocks near the port of Venice, Italian firefighters have reported.
“Of four people on board, one was injured when she was thrown overboard, and the bodies of three others have been recovered from the interior by the Vigili del Fuoco divers,” said the Italian Fire Department through its account on the social network Twitter.
The boat crashed into the rocks near the pier of Punta Sabbioni in Venice around 21.05 (local time), according to authorities.
The Italian news agency ANSA has reported that one of the victims was a boat designer and pilot who was trying to achieve a new speed record from Monte Carlo to Venice.
