Three people died in Austria and two others in Italy from two tree falls caused by strong winds, the authorities reported.
In the case of Austria, three men aged 60, 64 and 70 died of a tree that fell on a minibus in the municipality of Burgauberg-Neudauberg, the police reported on Sunday. Four other people were injured, including a child under the age of 11.
The tree, about 70 centimeters in diameter on its trunk, was about six meters from the road, but the storm threw it and dropped it on the road as the minibus passed, the Burgenland police said.
The voluntary fire brigade reported the difficulty of the rescue on Facebook in a message in which they complained about the “tragic” accident.
