In May of this year, we learned that Tesla, an Elon Musk automotive company, was ruling out Mexico as a location to build its future assembly plant. According to the newspaper reformThis would be the result of their being unable to offer a short-term strategy for installing a system that requires 400 megawatts of energy.
At that time (May 2020) was the governor of Guanajuato Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejowould have suggested Musk go through Twitter, to the Mexican state as an option to install its new factory. However, the company preferred the US cities of Austin, Texas and Tulsa, Oklahoma as two potential destinations.
The Mexican newspaper stated that the Jalisco government worked with Tesla last year to get the facility in the state. “However, we were affected by the federal energy strategy, in which the amount of energy required by such a system was 400 megawatts, we could not offer in the short term,” Ernesto Sánchez, head of the Ministry of Economic Development, told the media.
Tesla is currently building a new factory in Austin, Texas. This follows Musk’s threats to move Tesla manufacturing from California to Texas. Likewise, the eccentric CEO chose to live in Texas for tax reasons.
