Seven years ago Mauricio Vázquez, Oscar Vega and Daniel Müller They wanted to escape the world of traditional event planning agencies. For almost five years we were around 13 people and in the last two months we were a little more than twice as big, ”said Daniel Müller, managing partner of Yo Planner, in an interview with en Español.

The three entrepreneurs began to serve former clients of hotels or agencies who had already worked independently and were gradually able to bring together people they already knew in this industry and who were distinguished by their talent.

Yo Planner is a model that is very similar to direct sales or the insurance model thinking, but which is continuously monitored to provide a solid experience that will help find customers and the service they expect. The company only earns from the commission of the suppliers it uses, such as hotels, operators, manufacturing companies, DMCs, etc. because when they bring a meeting to a hotel their clients get a percentage of the total payment.

The company offers, among other things:

  • Free and personal advice for groups, companies, congresses and individuals.
  • Negotiating the best prices and contract terms.
  • Booking engine for groups.
  • Ranking of hotels and cruises.

“We formed this network of specialists – people who have knowledge of cruises, travel – about different types of people and ages who no longer wanted to be in normal agencies or who lost their jobs due to the pandemic, decided to join our model, ”says the businessman.

An alternative in the pandemic

The difference that Yo Planner has to traditional agencies is the talent they have. The network consists of more than 30 people who are experts in various industries and complement each other in order to offer the customer a complete experience. His advice does not incur any additional cost as they do commercial deals on behalf of clients for the best price and quality.

“Let’s say I do your company’s convention; I do business for you. I do everything I can to get you the best deals with our suppliers. As a customer, it doesn’t cost you our services because we’re protected by a commission. If the hotel pays me 100 dollars in the end, 50 for the planner and 50 for our company, “explains Müller.

In contrast to a traditional agency, Yo Planner specialists have no salary, but they earn with the commissions that we have with all providers. For example, one of our planners is holding a conference in Cancun. We negotiate for our customers with all services related to the event (hotel, van, activities, production, etc.) and “in a transparent manner for ours.” We do not raise our customers’ prices, we do business with the best contractual conditions with our suppliers and we earn a commission from these services and thus also from our network, ”says Müller.

Yo Planner has no offices, so the way it works has not changed. Everything is managed remotely. This part has been worked on for seven years since the beginning.

“In the network, activities that not all of us have mastered are supplemented, for example in the middle of tourism there are too many products and services that are difficult to know about everything. However, we have experts with whom we can help our customers. There are people who are very good at running events, who are familiar with conventions, event production and incentive travel, just as we have in recent years formed people who like our model, who are travel agencies who don’t A group, an event or a conference is a must, but they do the holiday and tourism part through us, that’s why we have grown too, ”says the managing director.

Prepare for the “New Normal”

One of the short-term goals is to reactivate the event industry, which the pandemic is now stopping. They are currently in training and meeting new providers of all the hygiene measures they take with the events. Also, learn more about virtual conferencing and prepare for changes.

“As soon as it is reactivated, we want to develop the network further in terms of talents, customers and suppliers. These are the three parts that we see growing, we did very well in 2019 and what started in 2020 but it all stopped because of the pandemic, we didn’t necessarily have events but more people joined in, people who like the way we work and that they can continue their careers. We have people over 40 or 50 who could be very difficult to get re-employed at the moment. With us you have the opportunity not to start from scratch, to join a team of professionals and to do what you value most. like the organization of events and trips, ”says Müller.

The managing partner mentions that an entrepreneur has great perseverance and more at this point as he believes that the businesses that emerge from this pandemic will strengthen. So it is a point of equilibrium where you stopped doing what you did to get another income, either with a different type of business or job, or giving everything for your business, to the project to believe and continue.

“Keep knocking on doors, every entrepreneur has to do that, look for opportunities that present themselves. We had a chance to grow in this pandemic because the people who lost their jobs are valuable people. So it is important that this is not the case, giving up, never leaving your idea, if you believe in it means continuing with the desire to move forward, ”adds Müller.
