The Mexican industry from coke, Kellogg, Mars, Mondelēz Mexico and PepsiCo Alimentos México, Combined with Concanaco and the Coparmex, they developed #MiTiendaSegura, an initiative to promote local small businesses and help sellers keep their businesses safe during the emergency.

“Despite the fact that several sectors have returned to work, there is still the possibility of Covid-19 infections. It is important for them to take extreme measures to protect the companies that matter, like this Groceries is the case, ”they explain in a statement.

This will be done by installing 50,000 transparent acrylic protective partitions in local stores and providing weekly information to help dealers support their economy, customer service with healthy distance, safety and health. Efforts are focused on Mexico City, the metropolitan area, Tijuana, Monterrey, Mérida, Querétaro and Guadalajara.

Why is it so important to keep grocery stores running?

According to the organizers of the initiative #MiTiendaSegura The reasons are related to the following points:

  • It is estimated that they exist nearby 1.2 million companies in Mexico.

  • It is estimated that they are a source of income for 2.9 million families Mexican.

  • 20% of shopkeepers and shopkeepers have no resources enough to keep their businesses closed for a long time.

  • 60% of shop owners are women and they serve as the economic engine of their families and communities.
