They launch the Bitcoin Pizza brand (but do not accept Bitcoin)

It’s no secret that the cryptocurrency space has made all sorts of headlines lately, including everything from the cheeky sketch of Saturday night live “The Dogefather” until Mark Cuban Y. Elon Musk A Twitter showdown on the environmental ethics involved in making Bitcoin. But a sentence that we probably never expected? Bitcoin pizza.

Crypto influencer and tech investor Anthony Pompliano sent the internet into a frenzy on Tuesday when announced by a video Twitter, which would launch a new initiative called Bitcoin Pizza to fund research and development of the famous cryptocurrency.

The infamous transaction he’s alluding to was when Laszlo Hanyecz bought two Papa John’s pizzas for 10,000 bitcoins in 2010. This marked the first time a business transaction has been completed through the coin.

The pizzas will be launched in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, Houston, Chicago, Miami, Washington DC, New York and Boston and will be delivered May 22-29.

The prices for each pizza vary by city but are higher than normal in each location. Proceeds will go to the Human Rights Foundation to support the organization’s Bitcoin Development Fund. “Just as Bitcoin is working to disrupt traditional banks, Bitcoin Pizza will work to disrupt corporate pizza chains,” said Pompliano. “Bitcoiners can achieve anything.”

Hungry consumers can use the Bitcoin Pizza website to place an order for delivery, which will heat up in a special Bitcoin box.

Five different pizzas are offered, including a pepperoni called “Laser Eyes” and a pineapple and ham version called “Satoshi’s Favorite”, a reference to Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto.

Ironically, Bitcoin is not an accepted form of payment for these pizzas. You need real money for that.

“For individuals in closed societies or for those facing hyperinflation, capital controls, sanctions, or financial oversight, Bitcoin can be an instrument of freedom,” the brand said. “Every pizza bought benefits open source developers who are working to make the Bitcoin network more private, decentralized, and resilient.”
