Mexico will enable an electronic voting system for Mexicans (from some states) residing overseas, with the aim of allowing them to vote in elections next year 2021. It is planned that this system will have a blockchain based registration blog. This was reported by the National Electoral Institute (INE) on its website.
According to the agency’s statement, The system has a registration protocol based on blockchain technology. To keep the votes secret, cryptographic encryption is also provided.
“If you live abroad, you can vote for the governor, migrants council or proportional representation council next year,” the INE website says This option applies to residents of some Mexican states.
According to INE, the features of the electronic voting system over the Internet would include:
Secret voting on a cryptographic key.
Authentication of the voter’s identity and that they only vote once.
Efficiency in counting votes and reliability.
Integrity of all protected data.
“The INE is trying to expand the voting modalities, which is why it is currently developing strategies to enable electronic voting over the Internet. The aim is to give Mexican citizens living abroad a more efficient way to cast their vote, in addition to the fact that the voting process will be completely safe, ”they said from the agency.
