Ford developed a jacket that indicates the intentions of cyclists to car drivers through an LED screen that is located on the back of the garment. This with the objective of reducing the accidents caused by the signaling action.
This initiative of the European subsidiary of the automotive company was born as the numbers of accidents involving cyclists are growing more and more in the old continent. In Europe alone, two thousand cyclists die each year, according to data from the European Road Safety Commission.
Through this product it is expected that bicycle drivers can show three types of emojis, arrows and a danger signal, images that will activate from a control located on the handlebar.
The jacket is part of the “Share the Road” campaign that Ford is developing in Europe. It uses emojis as it is a universal language and as a way to relieve tensions, as the spokesmen of the company explain.
