The candidate Cipriano Villanueva, who ran for mayor of the Mexican community Acapetahua in the Soconuco region in the southeast of the country, was murdered this Friday, according to members of his party Chiapas Unido.
The body of 65-year-old Villanueva was in the Arena Embarcadero section of the community, to which he was presented as a candidate for the first council, the local newspaper ‘El Universal’ reported.
According to the security report, the victim was lying on the asphalt and on the retaining wall of the street. For their part, employees of the special police and the expert services were on site, where they found four grenades with ammunition of 9 millimeters caliber.
In this context, Conrado Cifuentes, the head of state of the political formation, declared on social networks that they regretted the murder of Villanueva and asked the Mexican public prosecutor’s office to “clarify the facts and draw the ultimate conclusions”.
This means that 89 political leaders have already been murdered during the election campaign planned for June 6 for the federal elections in Mexico, 35 of whom were candidates.
Among the victims is Fuerza por México’s candidate for the city of Acapulco, José Alberto Alonso; and the opposition candidate for the mayor of Moroleón in the state of Guanajato, Alma Rosa Barragán.
In this context, the President of the Nation, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, encouraged the population to go out and vote this Thursday without fear of organized crime.
“I want to tell people that we should not be afraid, we have to participate and go to the vote,” said López Obrador, who stated that organized crime “often creates these environments so that people are afraid and do not participate” . according to the newspaper. “Millennium”.
