The White House warns that the security forces’ response to protests in Portland should be tightened

Acting head of the Department of Homeland Security, Chad Wolf, said on Sunday that he was planning to intensify federal officials ‘response to recent days’ protests in the city of Portland, as they threaten to spread to other cities.

“We will take additional measures at the beginning of next week at the earliest,” said Wolf, whose device has been accused of arbitrary arrests and acting without ID to curb the protests.

Wolf has defended this answer, which the democratic opposition and civil rights organizations dismissed as illegal given the virulence of the protests.

“They come armed with stones, bottles, baseball bats, power tools, and firecrackers and focus their violence on institutions and federal agents,” said Wolf, whose house on Sunday was surrounded by groups of demonstrators who called for the former lobbyist’s resignation.
