Vice President of the United States Mike Pence has attributed the rise in coronavirus cases in the country to the increase in population testing, in a speech welcoming the country’s “extraordinary progress” in combating the epidemic in the United States.
“The increase reflects the increase in the number of tests performed,” said Pence, head of the Coronavirus intervention force organized by the country’s president, Donald Trump, who held their first briefing in nearly two days this Friday, one day a month ago which the country registers nearly 2,500,000 cases and nearly 125,000 deaths, with states like Texas and Florida showing high infection rates every day.
Pence has assured that the situation is “different” from two months ago, at the height of the crisis in American hospitals. “In the most affected areas,” said Pence, referring to states like Florida or Texas, “we have no unusual requests for medical devices.”
“Despite the human loss, we have made tremendous progress in reopening the country thanks to human cooperation,” said Pence. “A month ago we fought under the weight of this pandemic. Now we are reopening the country with responsibility,” he said.
