US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Thursday that the North American country’s government knows “nothing” about North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, but has assured that he will continue to “closely monitor” North Korea.
Pompeo’s words come amidst a wave of rumors about Kim’s health, despite the South Korean authorities’ having pointed out that the information indicating that his health is deteriorating is “wrong news”.
In an interview with Fox News, Pompeo insisted that they “didn’t see Kim”. “We have no information, but we closely monitor, observe, and record everything that is happening not just around the North Korean leader, but across North Korea.”
He also highlighted the “significant risk that North Koreans face from the coronavirus pandemic,” a problem Pyongyang insisted that no cases were currently registered.
