The US sanctioned four Russians accused of meddling in the November elections

The United States government on Thursday announced sanctions against four Russian citizens with ties to the Kremlin who it accused of meddling in the November presidential election in the North American country.

The Treasury Department has indicated that among those sanctioned is Andri Derkach, who “has close ties with Russian intelligence and is trying to influence the opinion of American voters through a Russia-led covert campaign.”

Therefore, this campaign would focus on “manipulating the political process in the US in order to advance Russia’s evil interests in Ukraine,” as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has pointed out.

The other three sanctions – Artem Lifshits, Anton Andreyev, and Darya Aslanova – would be tied to a “troll farm,” the Internet Research Agency, also known as Lajta Internet Research, headed by oligarch Yevgeni Prigozhin.
