The American cities of Portland and Seattle were the scene of police actions to dispel the protests that led to the death of black citizen George Floyd. This was part of the massive marches to commemorate the deceased that took place this morning throughout the country.
Police intervention was particularly tough in Portland, where a policeman was injured by an object – a fireworks rocket – according to the Multnomah County sheriff’s office in The Oregonian newspaper.
The police finally declared the meeting a civilian disruption and began to violently disperse the crowd, which was particularly concentrated in front of the city’s Palace of Justice. According to this local newspaper, agents fired “pepper balls” at people in response to protesters’ “release” of “color balloons”.
On the other hand, Seattle police have used concussion grenades to disperse demonstrators in the east of the city, according to the Seattle Times.
At the moment there are no records of other riots in the country, the scene of mostly peaceful marches to commemorate Floyd and against police brutality.
