The US insists on its offer of unconditional dialogue with North Korea

The US special envoy for North Korea, Sung Kim, said this Sunday that his country is ready to have an unconditional dialogue with the North Koreans and to discuss issues such as the official declaration of the end of the Korean War or possible humanitarian aid to Pyongyang.

He has also called on North Korean authorities to stop his ballistic tests, which he believes are “worrying and counterproductive,” according to South Korean news agency Yonhap.

The statements came shortly after a meeting between Kim and his South Korean counterpart Noh Kyu Duk, at which the two discussed the two countries’ efforts to resume diplomacy with Pyongyang.

The US envoy lamented the recent North Korean test to launch a ballistic missile from a submarine, which he called a “provocation”, and warned that it did not comply with several UN Security Council resolutions.

Even so, Kim has given assurances that his country is ready to address issues such as humanitarian cooperation with Pyongyang to help North Koreans in vulnerable situations.
