The US announces a new shipment of humanitarian aid to help more than 18.4 million Afghans

The US announced this Thursday a new humanitarian aid post worth almost $ 144 million (around 123 million euros) for Afghanistan, with which it wants to help more than 18.4 million Afghans in the region.

Homeland Security spokeswoman Emily Horne has said this new funding brings the total amount of United States humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and to Afghan refugees in the region to nearly $ 474 million in 2021 the highest amount of aid of all other countries.

This aid, Horne said, “will be channeled through independent humanitarian organizations that provide direct assistance to more than 18.4 million vulnerable Afghans in the region, including Afghan refugees in neighboring countries.”

“Our partners provide essential protection, shelter, livelihood support, basic health care, winter prep, emergency food, and water, sanitation and hygiene services in response to growing humanitarian needs exacerbated by shortages. Health care, drought, malnutrition and impending winter, ”he said in a statement.
