Uruguayan president Luis Lacalle Pou and several members of the executive are in quarantine after contacting a coronavirus-infected official from the Ministry of Social Development.
Lacalle Pou and the rest will undergo a diagnostic test of COVID-19 this Saturday and will remain isolated until they know the result, the presidency reports in a statement.
The infected person, Natalia López, the area manager of the Uruguayan Ministry of Social Development in Rivera, has no symptoms of illness and attended a meeting with the president and members of his team last Monday. However, Uruguayan Presidency sources have told the El Observador newspaper that Lacalle Pou was wearing a mask all the time.
The positive of López has led to the closure of the Rivera Department of Social Development’s offices, where the president announced a series of measures to combat COVID-19 as it borders Brazil, the second largest country affected by the coronavirus of the world.
On the other hand, the situation in Uruguay is very different. The Uruguayan health authorities have confirmed 984 cases of coronavirus, including 22 deaths.
