The United States signs an agreement with Vietnam to contain the “intimidation” of Vietnamese fishing vessels

The United States has signed an agreement with Vietnam to prevent “illegal intimidation” of the Asian nation’s fishing vessels, the American embassy in Hanoi reported on Wednesday.

“The United States has extensive experience in managing fisheries and enforcing the rules that we like to share,” said US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel J. Kritenbrink, when signing the approval.

In particular, Kritenbrink has expressed the United States’ desire to work with Vietnam “to strengthen the sustainability of fishing and to help its fishermen against illegal intimidation”.

Although Kritenbrink has not made specific reference to China, this agreement takes place amid escalating tensions between Washington and Beijing, which include the Asian giant’s territorial aspirations in the South China Sea.
