The United States is issuing its first passport with gender ‘x’

The US government has issued the first passport with gender “x”, an alternative that the State Department has committed to and with which it wants to expand the rights of the LGTBI community, especially those who do not recognize themselves exclusively as men or women .

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had already announced in June that it would introduce new options for non-binary or intersex people in both passports and consular documents that prove births abroad.

Ministry spokesman Ned Price has issued a statement confirming the issuance of an initial passport and is confident that the option will be fully available by early 2022, once all the changes to the bureaucratic documentation have been made.

The government is also working to “ensure the best possible travel experience for all (US) passport holders regardless of gender” and is committed to promoting “the freedom, dignity and equality” of the LGTBI community.
