The United Nations welcomes the progress made in the talks between the conflicting parties in Libya

September 11, 2020

The United Nations on Friday welcomed the progress made in recent talks between the parties to the conflict in Libya, Morocco and Switzerland, as an attempt was made to reach an agreement that would end the war in the African country.

UN General Secretariat spokesman Stéphane Dujarric stressed that the organization “welcomes all initiatives and inclusive political efforts in support of a peaceful solution to the crisis in Libya”.

He has stated that he “takes note” of the statement published after the meetings in the Moroccan city of Buznika, in which the parties reached an agreement on the distribution of positions in the country’s institutions.

Dujarric also stated that the United Nations Assistance Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) “will initiate the necessary process to resume a fully inclusive forum for dialogue”, which was suspended in February 2020 due to the escalation of the conflict.
